John Parry was born to a hill farming family in Nantglyn, near Denbigh. He attended Denbigh Grammar School until 1966 when he secured a place at Sheffield University to read Politics and Economics. He graduated with a 2.1 degree. He subsequently obtained a place at Brazenose College, Oxford to read for a Masters in Agricultural Business Studies.
After gaining his Masters he decided to return home to work on and subsequently run the family farm. John never forgot the sacrifices that his family made to allow him the experience of going to University. Later in life, with no surviving close family, he decided that he wanted to help young people by giving them support to extend themselves and to fulfil their potential.
John died during the autumn of 2006 leaving a substantial legacy that he wished to be used to create a Trust to give annual grants to students who wished to pursue Further Education.
The objective of the Trust is to "Make annual grants to Further Education students and especially those from underprivileged backgrounds".
At the John Bennett Parry Trust we are celebrating our 11th year of providing financial support to students in further education. John would have been astounded that his legacy still lives on in the Trust and that we have made a difference to hundreds of students. We are hopeful that with good financial investment we will be able to continue supporting students for many years to come.
John Bennett Parry Educational Trust is a registered charity (Charity Number 1123459) which is controlled by a Board of Trustees.
